The package of Massive23 LX is definitely oversized as it looks and feels huge. The color scheme of this package matches very well with the Thermaltake theme. Majority of products from Thermaltake come in a dark packaging with orange logos. From the front and the back of the packaging we can learn a great deal about the unit inside as Thermaltake has included a lot of information about Massive23 LX.

Specifications

Pushing the logo and the unit to the user by putting big letters on the front and the back of the box was smart idea as it catches the eye at first glimpse. On the back of the packaging we found Specifications and Appearance details of Massive23 LX. Those come in handy if you are a geeky type of person and absolutely need hardware information.

World Cyber Games

We also found some vivid images of Massive23 LX and is detailed features. The features look great on the paper, but lets continue with out review and see if they are what they claim to be. This particular model has been awarded by WCG (World Cyber Games) as an 2010 Official Hardware. We found this out by finding a handy WCG logo on the side of the Massive23 LX box.

Detailed Information
Out of the box

Opening the box wasn't had at all. Just a few pulls and everything came out, sort of speak. The Massive23 LX is neatly packed in the protective foam and covered with a protective plastic pouch. This is done so that Massive23 LX would not get damaged during transport. Massive23 LX comes with instructional manual and few helpful tips on how to get best performance out of the unit.

Front shot

There aren't many logos on the unit itself as we only found one visible Thermaltake logo. This logo was found on the front of the unit. What jumps right out at you is this huge 230mm fan and the aluminum mesh. This would be directly under the hard drive and memory area of a notebook.

Rubber grip feet

Looking at the unit from the back we found it to be very ergonomic as it has a great shape from the bottom of the unit. There are no wires sticking out or anything what would irritate the unit while using Massive23 LX. What is important to mention is that this unit comes with handy two handles and that they are as well designed as the rest of the unit. The whole Massive23 LX sits on four rubber feet and this makes one of the stable table top units I have seen.

The Massive23 LX is not flat at all, in fact it is oriented to be used in the inclined state. Looking from the left and right sides of Massive23 LX we can see that there is an approximate angle of 30 degrees.

USB Cable

We were looking for a USB cable as the notes instructed and finally found it. It was neatly stacked a way in the the rear compartment. The trick compartment is just big enough to hold USB cable and maybe another small cable and is not usable for anything else. Definitely a nice feature as you very well could travel with Massive23 LX without looking for a cable to power the fan.

USB Cable
Control Panel

USB cable is about a foot long and that's all you really need to have this unit powered. The USB Cable would act as a power source for the whole unit as you can see from the picture above. There are also two buttons on the side of the Massive23 LX. One of the buttons turns Fan on/off and another one turns LED on the fan on/off.

Ready to rock

Pretty simple unit and doesn't not require any crazy adjustments what so ever. When powered on the whole unit glows light blue from the blue LEDs in the fan. Lets move on and take a look as some temperatures.

Testing

For our tests we have used out trusty Asus F8 Notebook. This Notebook get extremely hot in a matter of minutes and would be a great test for us. We are going to be looking at the external temperature with out Micro Temp of the Notebook and see if it makes any difference.

Without Massive 23 LX cooling
With Massive 23 LX cooling

When we had our system running for an approximately 20 minutes, temperatures have reached 96.7F outside of the shell. I told you it is a hot Notebook. HEH. After leaving the notebook on top of the Massive23 LX for an additional 20 minutes, we have repeated the measurements and this time the temperature of the shell was 89.6F. Great difference in the temperature drop. We are talking about 7.1F drop in the temperature, which is not all that bad considering I would not put this on my lap as I would get a burn.

Conclusion

If you out on the market for a Notebook/Netbook cooler Massive23 LX might be a just right item for you. What we are looking at here is one of the best designs in the Notebook coolers. I really like the form of this unit as it leaves a great impression. The whole structure of Massive23 LX feels very solid but yet light. With metallic mesh and light weight plastic design Massive23 LX might be one of the best units on the market. Thermaltake has added a blue LEDs to its massive 230mm fan which is basically the work horse of this whole unit. This particular fan provides the best cooling for this ergonomically designed notebook cooler. A very well build unit and definitely worth the 30$ USD.

Some pros we found:

Easy to set up and use.

Great airflow and appearance.

Handy trick compartment for storing cables.

None slide rubber surfaces.

Blue LED color on the fan.

Massive 230mm fan.

Some cons we found:

You think this model being supped up it will make you a cup of coffee.
